Mary Catipay, Opinion Editor

Twelve year old Mary Catipay is a sixth grade student in Mrs. Chung’s GATE class. She is the opinion editor for Woodsboro World. Mary comes from a family of four including her mom, Josephine, who works in Extron Electronics, her dad, Marito, a computer programmer, and older brother, Marc, who is currently fifteen years old and attends Valencia High School. Both of her parents are from the Philippines, a place where she had traveled to during summer vacation. She enjoys playing tennis, drawing, reading books( especially Harry Potter), and listening to music(such as Sam Smith, One Direction, and OneRepublic). Mary has played the violin since she was in the fifth grade. Currently, Mary’s only sport is tennis, which she has been doing for a little over the past two years. When Mary first arrived in Woodsboro from Glenview Elementary in fourth grade, she was put into Mrs. Strohmenger’s 4th grade GATE class. In 5th grade, she was moved the Mrs. Muller's fifth grade GATE class. Her favorite subjects are math and language arts. Mary has won first place on the Woodsboro Spelling Bee and was able to qualify for the written round of Orange County Register Spelling Bee. She is extremely excited to be an editor for the Woodsboro World.
