On December 12, 2014, Mrs. Livergood’s class performed The Little Mermaid mock trial. The mock trial was based on the movie The Little Mermaid. The writers of The Little Mermaid mock trial script were Leila S., Maisie A., Kayla A., Nuria F., and Kayla Z.

At the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Livergood’s class started to write mock trials. One day in October, each group spoke 3 minutes of their mock trial performance. They voted and three mock trials were chosen. Out of these three mock trials, Despicable Me 2 and The Little Mermaid were chosen. In November, the characters were cast for the mock trial. A few weeks before the mock trial performance, Mrs. Livergood’s class practiced an hour after lunch every day.

In The Little Mermaid mock trial, Ariel is being sued for breaking Sea Law 225. This law states that no mermaid or mermen could go up on land. In the movie, Ariel is born to King Triton in his kingdom. She makes lots of friends including Flounder and Sebastian. Every once in a while, though, Ariel goes to the surface and talks to Scuttle, who is seagull.   She also falls in love with Prince Eric. She wants to go on land and marry him. She trades her tails for her legs and goes on land. She also marries Prince Eric. In the mock trial, King Triton is suing her for going on land. On King Triton’s side, he has a mermaid attorney. King Trition is Ariel’s dad and is suing his own daughter. Attina, Adela, and Alana are testifying for King Triton. They are three of Ariel’s sisters and are very sarcastic. Ursula is also testifying for King Triton, even though she hates him. However, Ursula hates Ariel even more for sabotaging her plans to marry Prince Eric, so she agreed to testify for Trition. Sebastian is on King Triton’s side and even though he helped Ariel to get up to the surface, he is scared of the king and he would never forgive himself if he betrayed the king. Ariel, Prince Eric, Flounder, and Scuttle are part of the defense. They think that it was okay to break the law because Ariel turned out to be very happy with Prince Eric. Prince Eric testifies for Ariel because he loves her and doesn’t want to lose his life. Flounder is also testifying for Ariel and is Ariel’s best friend. Scuttle is a seagull who helped Ariel follow her dreams and go the surface. He also taught her about many land items, including the dinglehopper.  At the end of the mock trial, Ariel is guilty because she broke the law and is dragged to sea prison by Ursula, who is overjoyed that Ariel is going to be put into prison.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in The Little Mermaid mock trial! They all did a great job acting and performing, making it a huge success!
