Lakers, New Showtime?

The Lakers have been unsuccessful in the past several years. But recently, the Lakers have picked up solid players, even all-stars, that can change the Lakers game. LeBron James, for example, has shown that he can change a team from an average, low-level team, to a championship level powerhouse.

Many years ago, the Lakers were one of the best teams in the League. They even had a nickname, the Showtime Lakers. The main players of the team consisted of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kurt Rambis, A.C. Green, Jamaal Wilkes, James Worthy, Byron Scott, and Michael Cooper. Pat Riley was the Showtimes all-star Coach. After their former coach, Jack McKinney, was severely injured while riding his bike, the Lakers assistant coach stepped into his place. But, the new coach was altering their offense and frustrating the players. The coach got fired and was replaced with a new coach, Pat Riley. Pat Riley led the Lakers to four championships, two of them back-to-back against their rivals, the Boston Celtics. After coach Pat Riley retired it is believed that the Showtime Lakers era ended.

This year, the Lakers have improved dramatically. The Lakers have picked up Lonzo Ball, LeBron James, Brandon Ingram, Rajon Rondo, Kyle Kuzma, and JaVale McGee. The Lakers head coach is Luke Walton. Although the Lakers have not yet proven themselves yet, the Lakers will most likely do very well in the regular season and make it to the playoffs. LeBron James is an all-star basketball player that has won three NBA championships and has been named the NBA Finals MVP all three times. He also has been nominated MVP four times. Players such as Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram have a lot of potential and could easily become very good players many teams would like to have.

All in all, the Lakers have the potential to become a championship level team. The Lakers have improved dramatically ever since they went into a slump after Kobe Bryant Left. The Lakers could even become a new Showtime Lakers team.
