Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a book written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll. It has grown so famous it was made into a cartoon  movie called Alice in Wonderland, and then into a musical. Alice in Wonderland starts out with the protagonist, Alice, reading a book and talking to her cat, Dinah, about how boring her book is . Suddenly, she sees a white rabbit with a pocket watch go down a hole and follows him. The hole leads to a garden. A group of birds appear soaking wet and decide to begin a caucus race after a French mouse tries to dry them off by telling them a boring story. Alice scares them all away after she tells them about how her cat, Dinah, would be so good at catching mice and birds. Alice then runs into some talking flowers, where Alice teaches them to walk. Alice finally finds the white rabbit again where she finds the rabbit’s clock runs backwards. Alice realizes that Wonderland is not what it seems; everything is just confusing and crazy. After this episode, Alice meets the Cheshire Cat who shows her everyone is mad, and leads her to the Mad Hatter. Alice immediately tries to sit down at the table where the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and the Dormouse are sitting, but they object. Alice finds them the craziest people she has met so far. Alice leaves them behind and meets Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, learns nothing from them and continues on her way. She sees the Cheshire Cat again, and tells the cat how she just wants to get home now. The Cheshire tells her to find the Queen and play croquet with her. She finds a trio of gardeners, the Ace of Clubs, the Two of Clubs, and the Three of Clubs, who are curiously painting the roses red. These cards of the Queen decide to become Alice’s friend because she feels like she can’t face the Queen of Hearts all by herself. The Queen of Hearts comes and sees her roses were being painted red. She gets mad and yells “off with their heads”, but Alice tries to protect the cards. They somehow start playing a croquet game and the Cheshire Cat tries to make Alice win. Since the Queen is so stubborn and full of herself, she throws a fit that she doesn’t win and Alice tries to find a way out of Wonderland. She finally realizes that her mind is the key and from the beginning and all these people were in her mind; they aren’t actually real. Alice then wakes up when her sister shakes her awake. This year our school play will be Alice in Wonderland. Congratulations to all these people who got to participate in this play!
